CLOTHING (Getting started& Listen and Read) I.OBJECTIVES: - Recognize some traditional clothes in some countries, especially “ ao dai” in Viet Nam by speaking, listening and reading activities. II.LANGUAGE CONTENT: -Grammar: - The present perfect. - The passive. -New language: Poet, musician, tunic, design, poem, noel, slit designer. III.TEACHING AIDS: Pictures, Cassette tape . IV.PROCEDURES Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Content 1.Warm up: 5’ -Stick the pictures on the board and ask Ss to tell where they are from. -Check. -Look at the pictures and recognize the cloths and tell where they are from. -Ask some questions and Ss. answer. -Find out some new words and explains their mean. -Work in pairs ( one asks, one answers) *EXAMPLE ( Picture “ a” ) - Where does she come from? 9 She comes from Japan. -Why do you know she comes from Japan? 9 Because she is wearing a Kimono. b) She comes from Japan. c) He comes from Scotland.(UK) d) She is comes from India. e) He comes from the USA. f)She comes from (Saudi) Arabia. 2.Presentation: 10’ -Introduce the lesson by asking a question. -Have ss read the new words. -Check. 3.Practice :20’ -Play the tape twice. -Give feedback. -Have Ss read the lesson. -Have ss fill in the blanks. -Have Ss work in pairs to answer. -Check. -Guess and answer. -Read the new words. -Take notes and copy them. -Listen to the tape. -Listen to the tape again. -Read silently and then read loudly. -Do exercises. -Work in pairs to ask and answer the questions. -Show the board. -Check. -What kind of clothes is the Vietnamese traditional clothing? *VOCABULARY - poet (n) -poem (n) -tunic (n) -slit (v) -fashion (n) -fashionable (adj) -design (n) -designer (n) -inspiration (n) * STRUCTURES - For centuries, poets, writers and musicians have mentioned the “ao dai” in poems, novels and songs. -Ao dai was frequently worn by both men and women. 2) Listen and read , page 13,14 a) Complete the sentences , page 14 1. poems, novels, and songs. 2. a long silk tunic with slits up the sides worn over loose pants. 3. to wear modern clothing at work. 4. lines of poetry on it. 5. symbols such as suns, stars, crosses, and strips. b) Answer the question, page 14 1. Men and women used to wear the “ao dai” by tradition. 2.Because it is more convenient. 3.They have printed lines of poetry on it or have added symbols such as suns stars, crosses and stripes to the “ao dai” 4.Consolidation :7’ -Have Ss tell some information about “ao dai”. -Check. - Ask Ss to describe the Ao dai - Ask Ss read the text again -Tell. -Give ideas. - Describe - Read -Do you like “ao dai” ? Why ? Why not? The description of the students 5.Homework:3’ -Learn by heart new words. -Remember the present perfect and the passive. - Prepare “ Speak” +What kind of clothes do you usually wear every day ? + What kind of clothes do you like? Casual clothes -What do you usually wear on the weekend? 9 I usually wear shorts and T-shirts / baggy pants and pullover. -Why do you wear these clothes? 9 Because they are comfortable/ convenient. School uniform -Is it comfortable? 9 Yes, it is. -What color is it? 9 White and blue Clothes for special occasions -What do you usually wear during Tet holidays ( Lunar New Year)/ on Tet holidays? -What do you usually wear when you go to a birthday party/ when you go to a wedding party? c) Now report the result of your survey, page 16. *EXAMPLE - Two people said they usually wore shorts and T-shirts on the weekend. They wore these clothes because they were comfortable. -Lan said that her favorite type of clothing was blue jeans. She liked them because she looked strong in jeans. -All the members in the group said they liked their school uniforms. 4.Post-speaking: 10’ -Have SS write the reports on the board. - Ask Ss the question - Ask Ss questions -Write the reports on the board. - Answer - Answer -Lan said She -Hung said he ?
